Security operatives in Zamfara State have killed two suspected bandits and recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) during coordinated operations in Bungudu Local Government Area.
The Zamfara State Police Command said the incident occurred after armed attackers invaded Funture area of Rugar Buda village through Nahuce District around 12:30 a.m. on May 26, shooting sporadically to scare residents.
Police spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, said operatives responded swiftly to a distress call and engaged the gunmen in a firefight, during which two suspects were neutralised while others fled with possible gunshot wounds.
A vigilante member, 35-year-old Kabiru Auwal, was also injured during the exchange of fire and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.
The police said patrols have been intensified in the area to prevent further attacks and reassure residents.
In a separate operation, the newly formed Violent Crime Response Unit, working with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) team, discovered a pressure-plate IED along the Bilbis–Kuncin Kalgo Road.
Officials believe the explosive was planted by suspected terrorists to target both security personnel and civilians, but it was safely defused and destroyed without any casualties.
The command described the operations as successful, noting that the affected areas have now been declared safe for movement, while search operations continue in surrounding communities.
