PSC Condemns Alleged Killing of Mene Ogidi, Orders Action Against Officers

The Police Service Commission has condemned the alleged extrajudicial killing of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi by police officers attached to the Effurun Area Command in Delta State.

In a statement issued on April 29 by Torty Njoku, Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, the Commission described the incident as a serious violation of the law and an abuse of professional responsibility.

According to the PSC, the alleged killing, said to have occurred on April 26, contravenes several legal provisions, including the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Anti-Torture Act 2017, the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, the Nigeria Police Force Act 2020, and relevant police regulations.

The Commission commended the Delta State Commissioner of Police for taking swift disciplinary action against the officers involved.

It disclosed that the affected officers have been suspended and interdicted pending the outcome of a full investigation.

Reaffirming its commitment to accountability, the PSC said any officer found culpable would face the full weight of the law.

The Commission also extended condolences to the family of the deceased and urged members of the public to remain calm while due process takes its course.
