Administrator of the National Judicial Institute (NJI), Justice Babatunde Adejumo, has reaffirmed that public confidence in the judiciary remains the foundation of any functional democracy, stressing that justice must be delivered fairly, impartially and without fear or favour.
Speaking in Abuja at a briefing ahead of the 2025 All Nigerian Judges’ Conference of the Superior Courts, scheduled for November 17, Adejumo said a trusted judiciary strengthens the rule of law, safeguards fundamental rights and upholds fairness and equity.
He noted that the upcoming conference will bring judicial officers together to discuss ways to reinforce judicial independence, improve ethical standards and ensure courts remain accessible, transparent and responsive to citizens’ needs.
Adejumo said the NJI is committed to equipping judges and court personnel with the skills and values required for modern adjudication through continuous training, research and capacity building.
Highlighting the conference theme, “Building a Confident Judiciary,”approved by Chief Justice of Nigeria Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, he described it as timely given the judiciary’s critical role in sustaining democracy.
He also praised the media for promoting judicial transparency, urging court reporters to maintain high professional standards, as their work shapes public perception and fosters accountability.
“As we move towards the conference, together we can build a judiciary that inspires trust, commands respect and strengthens Nigeria’s democracy,” Adejumo said.
