Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has delivered a major Christmas food intervention to her constituents with the distribution of 2,000 25-kg bags of rice across communities in the area she represents.
The initiative, carried out ahead of the year-end festive season, was aimed at supporting vulnerable households and helping families cope with rising living costs. The rice distribution formed part of the Senator’s broader community support agenda, reinforcing her commitment to grassroots welfare and social responsiveness.
Speaking during the exercise, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan said the gesture was motivated by the spirit of giving and compassion that defines the season. She emphasised that the distribution was not political but intended to bring relief to ordinary families, especially those struggling with food insecurity.
The Senator also urged recipients to use the items judiciously, share with neighbours in need, and extend goodwill to their communities throughout the holiday period. She reiterated her dedication to constituent engagement, empowerment and service delivery beyond symbolic charity, stressing that meaningful political representation must translate into tangible support for people’s daily lives.
Community leaders and beneficiaries praised the Senator’s gesture, describing it as timely and impactful, saying that the rice gifts would provide much-needed support as families prepare for Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Local council officials who participated in the distribution commended the organisation and transparency of the exercise, noting that the bags were delivered evenly across all wards to maximise reach and equity.
The outing also included brief interactions between the Senator and community representatives, where residents raised local development concerns and expressed appreciation for the support ahead of the festive break.
