The National Sports Commission (NSC) has publicly disagreed with comments made by former Nigeria international Austin Oliseh regarding striker Victor Osimhen and the performance of the Super Eagles.
The NSC’s response comes in the wake of recent remarks attributed to Oliseh that assessed Osimhen’s form and overall contribution to the national team setup. Sports authorities emphasised that views expressed by the former player do not reflect official analysis or the strategic direction being pursued by Nigeria’s football leadership.
Officials pointed to Osimhen’s record at both club and international level, underscoring his status as one of Africa’s top forwards and a key asset to the Super Eagles’ ambitions in continental and global competitions.
The disagreement with Oliseh’s comments further highlights ongoing debates within Nigerian football circles over player performance, tactical approaches, and how best to harness the talents of leading professionals for national team success.
The NSC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Super Eagles’ preparation and competitiveness as they continue their campaign toward upcoming major tournaments, including AFCON qualifiers and World Cup qualifiers.
The divergence in perspectives underscores the broader conversation among stakeholders including former players, analysts, coaches, and administrators on ensuring the national team’s performance aligns with public expectations and strategic sporting goals.
Nigeria’s football fan base remains highly engaged in discussions about squad composition and performance, reflecting the deep national interest in the Super Eagles’ fortunes in Africa and beyond.
