President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose tenure is expected to end on July 31, 2026 after 10 years in office.
The appointment has drawn attention across the education sector, with many stakeholders highlighting Aina’s strong background in engineering, technology, and institutional development.
Professor Aina is one of Nigeria’s youngest professors, having attained the rank of Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) at just 39 years old. He will turn 40 in July 2026.
He currently lectures at OAU, where he is actively involved in teaching, research, and departmental administration within the Computer Engineering Department.
Academically, he holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, obtained in 2008, and has also undergone executive training at the Lagos Business School.
His familiarity with JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) days, where he gained early exposure to the board’s admissions processing systems.
Professionally, he is recognised as a technology and systems expert with experience in digital infrastructure, examination systems, and public sector reforms aimed at improving efficiency.
Beyond academia, Prof. Aina is an entrepreneur. He co-founded Fluid Click Solutions Ltd, an IT and engineering project management firm, with interests spanning education technology, agriculture, hospitality, and vocational training.
He has also served in governance roles, including membership of the pioneer Governing Council of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, and advisory responsibilities at Queensland Academy in Lagos.
An accomplished researcher, he has authored about 30 peer-reviewed academic papers in engineering and technology fields.
Professionally, he is COREN-registered and belongs to several bodies, including the Nigerian Computer Society, Nigerian Society of Engineers, IEEE, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
Prof. Aina is also active in youth development and philanthropy. He leads initiatives focused on education access and entrepreneurship support, and serves in leadership roles within community development organisations.
His appointment is widely seen as part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s tertiary admission system through technology-driven solutions and institutional efficiency.
