Alongside his academic career, Rev/Hon. Shalyefu is an ordained priest within the Anglican Church Diocese of Namibia, where his ministry has been defined by compassion, ethical guidance, and deep community engagement. As Priest-in-Charge of multiple parishes, he has provided spiritual leadership that emphasizes moral responsibility, social cohesion, and service to humanity. In the past five years, he has served as Mayor of Ongwediva, one of Namibia’s fastest-growing urban municipalities. Rev/Hon. He has contributed significantly to teacher development through his mentorship of junior primary educators under the Namibia College of Open Learning between 2015 and 2020. He also served as a part-time lecturer at the University of Namibia’s Oshakati Campus from 2007 to 2013, where he helped train and equip future educators. His excellence in teaching was recognized in 2009 when he was awarded Best Grade 10 Accounting Teacher in the Ohangwena Region. In addition, his leadership in the Namibia National Teachers’ Union as Regional Secretary for Information and Publicity further demonstrated his commitment to advocacy and institutional strengthening within the education sector. At the national level, he served as Chairperson of the Students’ Christian Movement of Namibia from 2020 to 2024, where he played a key role in youth leadership development and faith-based engagement. His involvement in community and political structures within the SWAPO Party in Ongwediva District further reflects his engagement in civic and political organization. His academic pursuit of a master’s degree focusing on leadership and institutional management reinforces his evidence-based approach to governance and organizational development.

As Mayor of Ongwediva, his contributions to municipal transformation have been significant. He has strengthened urban planning and zoning systems to accommodate rapid urban growth, improved infrastructure development and technical service delivery, and enhanced administrative efficiency within the municipality.
