Wike boosts security in rural FCT Communities with 11 new Police Stations

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has initiated the construction of 11 police stations across rural area councils in Abuja to strengthen grassroots security, especially in communities prone to criminal incidents.

The project, championed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, was showcased during an inspection tour by the Director of the FCT Department of Security Services, Adamu Gwary. Stations under construction include sites in Tukashara, Saburi, Bako, Yaba, Giri, Ushafa and other locations. Saburi

At the Saburi site, finishing works were observed on administrative blocks, residential quarters, plumbing, and electrical systems. Engineers on the ground indicated the stations are expected to be fully functional soon.

Gwary said the design includes integrated residential quarters so officers will live on site, enabling faster response to incidents. The station templates follow a national prototype approved by the Inspector General of Police, ensuring consistency with policing standards.

Wike had earlier directed that underused or abandoned town halls in area councils be converted into police stations, a move intended to expedite deployment of security infrastructure. Communities in Bwari, Abaji, and Kwali, which have experienced repeated criminal activity, are major targets of the initiative.

Local residents expressed relief, noting that response times to security incidents had been hampered by distance and poor road access. “Now police will be closer to us,” said a farmer in Yaba. Others noted reduced fear of nighttime theft and attacks as construction takes shape.
