Yobe State Awards Contracts for Three Major Road Projects to Boost Infrastructure and Economy

The Yobe State Government has officially signed contracts for the execution of three key road projects aimed at improving transportation infrastructure, strengthening economic activities, and enhancing connectivity across the state.

The contract signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Works Conference Hall in Damaturu, where the Commissioner for Works, Engineer Umar Wakili, represented the state government in formalising the agreements with the selected construction firms.

The approved projects include the repair and asphalt overlay of the Kalallawa–Kaliyari Road, awarded to Triacta Nigeria Limited; the full reconstruction of the Tetteba–Gulani Road, including a seven-kilometre extension linking Garin Tuwo, awarded to Elegance Construction Nigeria Limited; and the completion of a seven-kilometre asphalt overlay on the Damagum–Gubana Road, awarded to EEC Nigeria Limited.

According to the Commissioner, the projects were carefully selected based on their strategic importance to transportation and rural access. He explained that the roads connect key agricultural and commercial communities, and their rehabilitation is expected to significantly ease movement of goods, services, and people across different parts of the state.

Engineer Wakili noted that the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni remains committed to expanding infrastructure development as a central pillar of its economic growth agenda. He added that improved road networks are essential for stimulating trade, encouraging investment, and improving the overall quality of life for residents.

He further stated that the government’s infrastructure drive is part of a broader plan to open up rural areas, reduce travel difficulties, and support farmers and traders who depend heavily on road access to reach markets and distribution centres.

Speaking on behalf of the contracting firms, Mr. Adamu Sallau of Elegance Construction Nigeria Limited expressed gratitude to the state government for entrusting the companies with the projects. He assured that all works would be executed according to approved engineering standards, with strict adherence to quality specifications and timelines.

Sallau also pledged that the contractors would prioritise durability and safety in the construction process, ensuring that the completed roads serve communities effectively for many years and contribute meaningfully to local economic development.

The state government emphasised that the award of these contracts reflects its continued focus on infrastructure renewal as a key driver of economic transformation, improved rural accessibility, and sustainable development across Yobe State.
