The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has dismissed reports alleging a mass defection of its members in Kumbotso Local Government Area, insisting that the party’s support base in the area remains solid ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Auwalu Soja, described the reports as false and accused the Kwankwasiyya movement of spreading misinformation to distract from what he called its own internal challenges.
According to Soja, the APC continues to enjoy the backing of its key stakeholders and grassroots members in Kumbotso, adding that the party could not identify the individuals being presented as former APC members.
“The APC in Kumbotso remains united and committed to the party’s leadership. We have no record of the people being paraded as defectors, and the claims lack credible evidence,” he said.
The party also pointed to ongoing federal infrastructure projects as evidence of the government’s commitment to the area. These include the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline and the Kaduna–Kano–Maradi standard gauge railway, both of which pass through parts of Kumbotso Local Government Area.
Soja further stated that APC members appreciated Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s efforts to attract investments to the local government, saying the initiatives are expected to boost economic activities and create jobs for residents.
He urged the Kwankwasiyya movement to focus on resolving its internal issues instead of engaging in what he described as political propaganda.
The APC expressed confidence that voters in Kano would not be influenced by what it termed political distractions as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 elections.
The party also called on residents to disregard reports of mass defections, maintaining that its organisational structure in Kumbotso remains united and firmly established.
