The Parliament of Sierra Leone recorded a series of significant activities between late June and early July 2026, including the launch of the Men on a Mission Parliamentary Chapter, oversight engagements with government institutions, and international recognition for one of its lawmakers.
Parliament Launches Men on a Mission Parliamentary Chapter
On June 26, 2026, Parliament officially inaugurated the Men on a Mission Parliamentary Chapter and certified dozens of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) paralegals during a ceremony attended by parliamentary leaders, Members of Parliament, religious leaders and other dignitaries.
The global initiative advocates for the welfare, protection and empowerment of men while promoting their positive role in society.
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Speaker of Parliament, Clerk of Parliament Karmoh K. Conteh described the event as an important step toward promoting inclusion, justice and national development. He urged men to embrace responsible leadership and contribute to building a peaceful and equitable society.
Conteh also congratulated the newly certified ADR paralegals, describing their role as vital to strengthening access to justice and supporting the country’s legal system.
Public Accounts Committee Reviews Audit Queries
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) continued its examination of the 2024 Auditor General’s Report by engaging officials of the Sierra Leone Seed Certification Agency.
During the hearing, several audit concerns were resolved, while outstanding issues were referred to Audit Service Sierra Leone for further verification and reconciliation with the agency.
Parliament Supervises Partial Handover of National Stadium
The Parliamentary Committee on Sport oversaw the partial handover of refurbished facilities at the Siaka Stevens National Stadium by the Government of China to the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Authority.
The facilities handed over include the renovated stadium hostel, basketball court, practice field and swimming pool. The refurbishment is part of a $40 million Chinese-funded project aimed at modernising the country’s premier sporting complex.
Hon. Racheal Pessima Honoured in Mauritius
Member of Parliament Rt. Hon. Racheal Mariatu Sesay Pessima received the Top 100 Global Innovative Leaders Award during the Global Innovative Leaders Summit in Mauritius.
She also served as Guest of Honour and keynote speaker, where she addressed participants on the importance of creating policies that encourage diaspora investment and strengthen economic development across Africa.
Transport Committee Begins Maritime Oversight Tour
The Parliamentary Committee on Transport and Aviation commenced an oversight visit to the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA) and the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA).
Led by Committee Chairman Hon. Dickson Momoh Rogers, the inspection focused on operational efficiency, revenue generation, maritime safety and implementation of government policies. The committee stressed Parliament’s commitment to accountability and improved service delivery.
Tourism Ministry Appears Before Parliamentary Committee
The Parliamentary Committee on Tourism and Cultural Affairs also held an oversight session with officials of the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and its affiliated agencies.
Lawmakers reviewed the ministry’s programmes, achievements and operational challenges while expressing concern over the failure to submit complete documentation ahead of the hearing, describing the omission as an obstacle to effective parliamentary oversight.
The engagements form part of Parliament’s constitutional responsibility to promote accountability, strengthen governance and ensure public institutions deliver efficiently in the interest of Sierra Leoneans.
