Ohanaeze Ndigbo demands two new states for Southern Nigeria

The apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called on President Bola Tinubu to address the historical imbalance in state creation by establishing two new states in the South.

In a statement issued on Sunday February 9th, by the group’s Deputy President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Ohanaeze emphasized the need for equitable representation. They argued that the Northern region currently enjoys a political advantage with 19 states, compared to the South’s lesser number.

The group urged President Tinubu to create one state in the Southeast, which presently has only five states, and another in the South-South or Southwest. According to Ohanaeze, this move would foster justice, national unity, and address long-standing grievances.
