Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections Peter Obi has expressed concerns over President Bola Tinubu’s proposal to increase Nigeria’s 2025 budget from ₦49.7 trillion to ₦54.2 trillion.
In a statement on X, Obi emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability, urging the government to provide a detailed breakdown of expenditures. He stressed that Nigerians deserve clarity on how their resources will be managed to address critical sectors such as education, healthcare, security, and poverty alleviation.
“Nigerians are still waiting for a detailed report on the execution of the Renewed Hope budget passed in December 2023,” Obi noted. He urged the National Assembly to disclose full details of the 2024 budget and ensure that the 2025 Budget of Restoration prioritizes openness and the well-being of citizens.
Obi concluded by calling on lawmakers to uphold transparency, which he described as essential for informed governance and national progress.
