PANDEF moves to ease River’s Political Tensions

The Peace and Reconciliation Committee of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has called for political stability and mutual respect in Rivers State, urging stakeholders to prioritize the welfare of the people.

During a closed-door meeting in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, discussions centered on fostering unity between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Minister Nyesom Wike, two key political figures in the state.


Chairman of the Rivers Elders Forum, Rufus George, expressed optimism about the reconciliation process, emphasizing the need to honor the people’s mandate. He also called on President Bola Tinubu to support ongoing mediation efforts.

Niger Delta activist AnnKio Briggs welcomed PANDEF’s intervention, stressing that political stability in Rivers State is crucial for national unity. She urged the committee to push for broader stakeholder engagement to ensure lasting peace.

The PANDEF delegation was led by former Governor Victor Attah and included prominent figures such as Senator Roland Owie, Senator Emmanuel Essien, and Senator Stella Omu. Representing the Rivers Elders Forum were Chief George, Admiral O. P. Fingesi, Senator Andrew Uchendu, and Anabs Sara-Igbe.

The meeting ended on a hopeful note, with leaders reaffirming their commitment to restoring peace and stability in Rivers State.
