The Political drama unfolded in the Lagos State House of Assembly as Mojisola Meranda resigned as Speaker, only to be immediately re-elected as Deputy Speaker. Her resignation came amid a prolonged leadership crisis, which has rocked the Assembly for weeks.
Following Meranda’s resignation, Mudashiru Obasa, the former Speaker who was removed in January, was re-elected by lawmakers. Obasa, who has been a member of the House since 2007 and previously served as Speaker from 2015, took the oath of office, marking his official return to the leadership position.
Lawmakers commended Meranda for her decision, acknowledging her role in stabilizing the Assembly and following the directives of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
