Imo VAT Surges by 253%, Tops National Growth Chart

Imo State has recorded an unprecedented 253.63% increase in its Value Added Tax (VAT) contributions within a month, marking a major economic milestone.

According to data from CableIndex, released on March 5, 2025, the state’s VAT contributions soared from ₦448.51 million in December 2024 to ₦1.59 billion in January 2025.

Prince Eze Ugochukwu, Special Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodimma on Public Enlightenment, credited this sharp rise to strategic economic policies and governance reforms that have boosted business activities and enhanced revenue generation.

“This surge reflects the success of our economic policies, which have strengthened Imo’s revenue base and positioned the state for long-term growth,” Ugochukwu stated.

The report also highlighted contrasting trends across the country. While states like Kwara, Sokoto, and Edo saw similar triple-digit percentage increases, others such as Benue, Taraba, and Ogun suffered sharp declines in VAT contributions.

With its record-breaking growth, Imo State is now better positioned to attract investments and sustain economic progress, Ugochukwu added
