Lamido Slams El-Rufai over SDP Move

Former Jigawa State Governor and PDP chieftain, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has dismissed Nasir El-Rufai’s call for opposition politicians to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

El-Rufai, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to SDP, urged prominent figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola to join his movement.

Lamido rejected the idea, questioning El-Rufai’s political ideology and commitment to national development. He recalled how the former Kaduna governor once dismissed political elders, only to now claim he advised former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“With all due respect, how does he expect us in PDP to leave and join another party? PDP made him who he is today,” Lamido remarked.

He stressed that despite PDP’s internal struggles, it remains his political home, adding that governance should not be driven by personal grievances but by national interest.

“We should not fight Tinubu just because we are angry. Leadership should be about strengthening the country, not settling personal scores,” he concluded.
