President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo for his bold education reforms, calling them an example for other states. Speaking at an Iftar dinner in Abuja, the President commended Okpebholo’s hands-on approach and criticized the previous administration for its lack of progress.
“I proudly watched Okpebholo, the governor of Edo State, walking around the schools, seeing the situation firsthand. His predecessor used to brag about being the best, yet left nothing behind,” Tinubu remarked.
Governor Okpebholo recently declared a state of emergency in the education sector, recruiting over 5,000 teachers and renovating dilapidated school buildings. His reforms have led to a surge in public school enrollments as parents withdraw their children from private schools.
Observers and stakeholders have called on other states to adopt similar measures to improve Nigeria’s education system.
