OHANAEZE CONDEMNS IPOB FOR INTERFERENCE, WARNS OF ‘ENEMIES WITHIN’

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has issued a stern warning to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), accusing elements within the separatist movement of undermining the struggle for Nnamdi Kanu’s release and exploiting the Biafra cause for personal gain.
In a joint statement signed by factional Deputy President-General Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and spokesperson Thompson Ohia, Ohanaeze decried IPOB’s alleged meddling in its internal affairs and criticized the group for aligning with individuals they claim are complicit in Kanu’s prolonged detention.
“We cannot overlook IPOB’s disturbing alignment with certain Igbo leaders who exploit Nnamdi Kanu as a scapegoat for selfish political motives,” the group stated. “It is appalling that IPOB now sides with those responsible for orchestrating violence against its own members.”
Ohanaeze accused IPOB of lending credibility to opportunists who use court appearances for publicity without any real commitment to securing Kanu’s freedom. “Many of the people IPOB now supports are more interested in public appearances at courtrooms than in pushing for Kanu’s actual release,” the group warned.
The statement also condemned IPOB’s portrayal of innocent Igbo youths as terrorists and accused the group of worsening divisions in the Southeast. While Ohanaeze emphasized it would not engage in a media war with IPOB, it insisted on setting the record straight and cautioned against further misalignment.
The organization called for unity among Igbo stakeholders and urged IPOB to refocus its energy on constructive dialogue and peaceful agitation, rather than enabling what it described as “enemies within.”
