A brewing crisis has erupted within the Nasarawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after 18 out of 27 executive members of the party in Gayam Ward disowned the purported suspension of state chairman Dr. Aliyu Bello.
This comes a day after the Ward Chairman, Ibrahim Iliyasu, and Secretary Ibrahim Kwande announced Bello’s suspension over alleged anti-party activities. But at a press conference in Lafia on Wednesday, July 2nd. Assistant Secretary Adamu Bawa said the suspension was invalid, unlawful, and not backed by quorum.
Bawa accused the two officers of “abuse of office” and violating Article 21 of the APC Constitution. He further announced their suspension pending disciplinary investigation and reaffirmed support for Dr. Bello as the legitimate state chairman.
The internal wrangling could further destabilise the party’s hold in Nasarawa as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.
