ONLINE PLATFORM TO TRACK PUBLIC PROJECTS IN REAL TIME UNVEILED

A game-changer in governance transparency has emerged with the launch of Upnaija.ng, an online portal designed to track government contracts and project implementation across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.
Speaking at the unveiling in Abuja, Upnaija’s head of technical team, Samuel Chukwunonso, explained that the platform allows citizens, including those in the diaspora, to trace government projects from inception to completion using their mobile devices.
Over 10,000 federal, state, and local government contracts have already been uploaded to the portal, complete with data-driven updates provided by human monitors embedded within each locality. Chukwunonso noted that Upnaija remains a nonprofit organisation aimed at curbing contract-related corruption by making public spending transparent and traceable.
“Too often, projects are completed only on the pages of newspapers or television screens. With this platform, Nigerians can see what is truly happening in their communities,” he said.
