TRUMP TO SEND WEAPONS TO UKRAINE, WARNS OF 100 % TARIFFS ON RUSSIA OVER CEASEFIRE REFUSAL

At a White House meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, U.S. President Donald Trump sharply criticised Russia’s actions in Ukraine, saying he is “very, very unhappy” with President Putin. Trump announced plans to bolster Ukraine’s defense by delivering “top‑of‑the‑line” weapons through NATO supply chains. He also issued a stern warning: if no ceasefire deal is reached within 50 days, the U.S. would impose “very severe” secondary tariffs of up to 100 % on Russian imports.
North America correspondent Anthony Zurcher described the announcement as a dramatic shift in U.S. policy, reflecting waning patience with Moscow. The move comes amid intensified international diplomacy: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported “productive” talks with U.S. envoy Keith Kellogg in Kyiv, aimed at reinforcing military coordination. Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stressed the importance of continuing negotiations, saying that talks remain crucial to resolving the crisis. This blend of military support and economic pressure represents one of the most assertive U.S. responses to the conflict yet.
