The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has renewed its demand for the Federal Government to immediately implement the recently approved pension increase, warning that further delay is worsening the plight of retirees.
Union leaders said thousands of pensioners are languishing under economic hardship, struggling to pay for food, medication, and basic services as inflation erodes their meager incomes. They accused the government of ignoring their sacrifices despite years of loyal service to the nation.
Speaking Tuesday September 16th, NUP officials described the situation as “unacceptable,” insisting that pensioners deserve dignity and financial security in retirement. They stressed that the approved increase was not a privilege but a right that must be honored without excuses.
The group appealed directly to President Tinubu to intervene, adding that implementing the pension review would restore hope to retirees and demonstrate genuine commitment to social justice.
