Youth organizations from Nigeria’s northern region have commended Senate President Godswill Akpabio for what they describe as a “fatherly and stabilizing” role during the recent National Assembly crisis involving the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. In a communique, the northern youth groups said Akpabio’s interventions helped deescalate tensions and preserve institutional respect.
They extended gratitude to him for engaging parties, ensuring Senate operations were not completely paralyzed, and restoring access to Senator Natasha’s office. The groups urged all stakeholders to maintain decorum and work within legislative and constitutional frameworks.
Akpabio has not directly responded to the praise, but the Senate move to unseal Natasha’s office shortly before resumption is widely seen as aligning with the calls for de-escalation.
