PLATEAU COUNCIL BOSS CHARGES YOUTH ON SELF-RELIANCE

The chairman of a local government council in Plateau State has called on young people to embrace self-reliance and vocational training as pathways out of unemployment and social instability. Speaking at a community workshop aimed at promoting entrepreneurship, the council boss urged youths to take advantage of available government and private-sector training opportunities and to prioritise small business development over idle expectations.

During his address, the chairman highlighted recent council initiatives — including skills acquisition programmes and micro-grant schemes — that are designed to equip young residents with marketable skills. He also announced plans to partner with local manufacturers and agricultural processors to create apprenticeship opportunities and guaranteed first markets for trainees’ outputs.

Community leaders present at the event pledged support for the council’s efforts and called on development partners to scale up funding for youth-targeted projects. The chairman emphasised that sustainable employment creation requires collaboration between government, private enterprise and community structures to build resilient local economies.
