President Bola Tinubu has called on leaders in Nigeria’s South-East region to follow the example of Dr. Michael Okpara, former premier of Eastern Nigeria known for his integrity and developmental focus. Tinubu made the call at an event with senior South-East officials.
He urged current leaders to rise above local divisions and prioritize public welfare, infrastructural growth, and ethical governance, arguing that those values will restore trust and drive sustainable progress in the region.
Tinubu said the South-East has “enormous human and economic potential” that leadership must unlock through visionary policies, accountability, and alignment with national development goals.
Some South-East stakeholders responded with applause, saying they welcome the call and expect follow-up through concrete funding, programmes, and policy reforms to match the rhetoric.
