INEC acting chairperson Agbaamuche-Mbu meets with political party leaders

Mrs. May Agbaamuche-Mbu, newly appointed Acting Chairperson of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has convened a meeting with leaders of major political parties to discuss the conduct of upcoming elections, the integrity of party primaries, and compliance with electoral guidelines.

The session, held at INEC headquarters in Abuja, allowed the Acting Chairperson to outline her priorities: strengthening electoral transparency, improving internal INEC processes, and enhancing stakeholder confidence. She solicited cooperation from all parties to reduce litigation, ensure timely primaries, and observe agreed-upon regulations.

Representatives from the APC, PDP, Labour Party, and several smaller parties attended. Some party leaders raised concerns about internal disputes, zoning, and party structure legitimacy. Agbaamuche-Mbu responded that INEC will enforce rules fairly and without bias, urging parties to comply to avoid disqualification or penalties.

Observers described the meeting as a positive step toward rebuilding trust at a critical transitional moment for Nigeria’s electoral management.
