In a dramatic political development, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has formally defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He justified the move by stating that Enugu has experienced increased federal attention, investment, and development under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Announcing the defection at a public event, Governor Mbah said that partnership with the ruling party was necessary to accelerate infrastructural projects, attract federal resources, and foster synergy between state and federal levels. He said his constituents will now benefit more from alignment with national government priorities.
Party officials were present to receive him and highlight key projects in Enugu already funded by federal partnerships. The move adds political heft to the APC in the Southeast and signals further realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
PDP leaders reacted swiftly, denouncing the defection as opportunistic and warning of political consequences. They affirmed that the party remains strong in Enugu and pledged to sustain grassroots resistance.
