The Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, has urged political parties to conduct their primaries in full compliance with the Electoral Act 2022 ahead of the 2026 governorship election scheduled for August 8.
In a statement issued by INEC spokesperson, Olurode Musa, Agboke stressed that transparent, peaceful and democratic primaries were essential to reducing the high number of pre-election litigations that often arise from flawed internal processes.
He reminded parties that all aspirants must be given equal opportunity to contest and noted that primaries are to be held between November 24 and December 15, according to INEC’s national guidelines.
Agboke said the commission is ready to support parties to ensure lawful conduct, while calling on security agencies and other stakeholders to help maintain order. He warned that INEC will monitor all activities closely and take legal action against any party that violates electoral regulations.
