The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State, Gabriel Pidomson, has dismissed claims that the opposition has weakened ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that political parties outside the ruling bloc remain active and prepared for the contest.
Pidomson made the remarks during a homecoming reception held in his hometown of Bodo City in Gokana Local Government Area, where supporters gathered in large numbers to welcome him despite heavy rainfall.
Addressing journalists, the ADC candidate described the turnout as a clear sign of growing public support for his governorship ambition.
According to him, the willingness of residents to remain at the event despite the downpour demonstrated their confidence in his candidacy and the party’s vision for Rivers State.
Pidomson thanked the people of Bodo, Gokana and the wider Ogoni community for what he described as a warm and encouraging reception.
He said his campaign is focused on bringing political change to Rivers State, adding that his goal is to promote good governance, accountability and inclusive leadership.
The governorship hopeful also stated that Rivers people deserve a government that prioritizes their interests and creates opportunities for sustainable development.
Speaking at the event, the Rivers State Chairman of the ADC, Chukwudi Dimkpa, commended the community for the massive turnout, saying it reaffirmed the party’s confidence in Pidomson as its flagbearer.
He expressed optimism that the support shown by residents would translate into stronger grassroots backing for the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Also speaking, a representative of the organizing committee, John Badom, described the homecoming as a historic moment for the community.
He said residents were proud to see one of their own emerge as the ADC’s governorship candidate and expressed confidence in his ability to represent the interests of the state.
As part of the visit, Pidomson paid a courtesy call on the traditional ruler and council of chiefs in Bodo, where he received traditional blessings before joining supporters in a peaceful procession through the town.
The event concluded with a reception featuring cultural displays and celebrations attended by party members, supporters and residents from Bodo and neighbouring communities.
