Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, announced that his administration has set aside over N800 million to empower non-indigenous communities in the state, including Ndi Igbo, Arewa, Yoruba, and Niger Delta groups. The announcement was made during the Igbo Unity Day Celebration at Ibom Hall Grounds, Uyo, where Governor Eno emphasized his commitment to unity, inclusivity, and peaceful co-existence among all residents, regardless of ethnicity.
The governor praised the entrepreneurial spirit of the Igbo community, noting their contributions to the state’s development and describing them as an integral part of Akwa Ibom’s social fabric. He highlighted that the state is becoming a melting pot of cultures, united in peace and harmony through deliberate efforts at promoting security, hospitality, and cooperation.
Governor Eno also expressed gratitude to Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, who honored him as their grand patron and declared support for his re-election alongside President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Godswill Akpabio in 2027. He pledged continued partnership with non-indigenous communities, emphasizing adherence to peace, lawfulness, and non-criminal behavior.
Earlier, Kayceey Chidiadi, President of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo Akwa Ibom Chapter, commended Eno for his visionary and unifying leadership and for appointing members of their community to government position a gesture previously unseen since the state’s creation.
In a related empowerment initiative, in June 2025, Governor Eno disbursed N250 million to support over 540 individuals in the Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency through trade, agriculture, and small business schemes, reinforcing his administration’s focus on grassroots development
