Africa’s foremost industrialist, Aliko Dangote, has stepped down as Chairman of Dangote Cement Plc, marking the end of an era that reshaped Nigeria’s manufacturing landscape and set new records in industrial growth.
Dangote’s resignation, effective July 25, 2025, was announced in a corporate disclosure that praised his “giant footprints” across Africa’s cement industry. His successor, Mr. Emmanuel Ikazoboh, a seasoned independent director, has assumed the chairmanship.
“His vision and tenacity redefined not just a company, but the entire cement industry,” the company said, citing Dangote Cement’s expansion to 52 million metric tonnes across Africa.
Under his watch, the company recorded its highest-ever half-year revenue in June 2025—₦2.07 trillion, a 17.7% increase—alongside ₦520.5 billion in profit after tax, up 174.1% from the previous year.
Dangote plans to focus on the multi-billion-dollar refinery, petrochemical, and fertilizer projects. The company also confirmed that subsidiaries paid ₦402 billion in taxes in 2024, making Dangote Group Nigeria’s top taxpayer.
Incoming chairman Ikazoboh promised continued innovation and sustainable growth, describing the company as a “beacon of African enterprise.”
