Borno Mosque bombing condemned as barbaric and inhumane by transport minister

The Federal Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Ahmed Alkali, has strongly condemned the deadly bombing at Al-Adum Jummuat Mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, describing the attack as barbaric, inhumane and a grave affront to peace and worship. The blast, which occurred during Maghrib prayers on 24 December 2025, killed at least five worshippers and injured 35 others, according to police and state officials.

In a statement issued by his media office, the minister extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, the injured, and the Borno State Government, underscoring that such violence — especially in a sacred space — undermines efforts to build peace and national development. He emphasised that attacks on civilians, particularly at places of worship, strike at the core of societal values and must be unequivocally condemned.

Alkali also reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and critical infrastructure, noting that all tiers of government are working with security agencies to prevent further incidents and protect citizens during the festive season and beyond. The minister prayed for swift recovery of the injured and strength for victims’ families.

The Borno mosque bombing has drawn broad national and regional outrage, with governors, lawmakers and international bodies condemning the atrocity and calling for heightened vigilance at worship centres and other public spaces. Authorities have also deployed additional security personnel across Maiduguri and key sites to deter similar attacks as security operations continue in northeast Nigeria.
