CIVIL SOCIETY CRITICIZES TINUBU’S $100K REWARDS TO SUPER FALCONS AS EXCESSIVE

The Vanguard for Transparent Leadership and Democracy (VATLAD) has faulted the federal government’s decision to reward Super Falcons players and officials with $100,000 and $50,000 respectively, branding the sums as disproportionate and a misuse of scarce public resources.
National President Igbini Emmanuel acknowledged President Tinubu’s effort to celebrate Nigeria’s women’s football champions but cautioned that future sports awards should not exceed the monetary value of the physical trophy won. He specifically criticized the gamified comparison made by the Presidency to the ₦150 million prize for Big Brother Naija winners, warning of moral hypocrisy.
While VATLAD commended excellence and the team’s continental triumph, Emmanuel insisted that public funds should be deployed with greater restraint and policy prudence, especially given the country’s economic constraints.
