Indigenous oil company Emadeb Petroleum Exploration & Production has commenced commercial crude oil production from its Ibom Field in PPL 236, offshore Akwa Ibom, marking a major milestone for Nigeria’s energy sector.
First oil was achieved in October 2025 following years of investment, engineering work, and regulatory approvals. The field, discovered in 1979 and holding an estimated 103 million barrels of oil, is a product of Emadeb’s $100 million phased development programme.
CEO Adebowale Olujimi said the project underscores the role of indigenous operators in boosting Nigeria’s energy security and economic diversification. Phase Two will involve drilling two additional wells, aiming to triple production by late 2026.
Industry analysts note that Ibom Field exemplifies the Petroleum Industry Act’s reforms, showcasing the capacity of local companies to contribute to national crude output.
