Hundreds of nursing students in Akwa Ibom State can now breathe a sigh of relief following Governor Umo Eno’s successful intervention in resolving the long-standing indexing crisis at the Akwa Ibom State College of Nursing.
The breakthrough came after the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) approved the indexing of 275 students previously affected by admission delays and granted an additional 150 admission slots to the College.
Governor Eno’s action followed months of dialogue between the State Ministry of Health, led by Dr. Ekem Emmanuel John, and the NMCN, to address regulatory hurdles arising from the College’s transition from a School of Nursing.
Dr. John described the approval as a “landmark moment” and strategic investment in the future of healthcare delivery in the state, noting that the expanded quota would help train more nurses for both urban and rural health facilities.
The Governor’s intervention aligns with the ARISE Agenda focus on healthcare reform, human capital development, and infrastructure upgrade across Akwa Ibom.
“Relief has finally arrived for all affected students,” Dr. John said. “This milestone reflects the Governor’s compassion and commitment to fairness, reform, and human development.”
