The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed Murtala Garo as the new Deputy Governor of Kano State following a successful screening and approval process.
The confirmation was announced during plenary on Monday, presided over by Speaker Jibril Falgore, after lawmakers considered and adopted the report of an ad hoc committee established to review the nomination.
Presenting the committee’s findings, Deputy Speaker Muhammad Bello said Garo’s nomination followed the resignation of former Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo.
He explained that the screening process was conducted in line with Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which requires legislative approval whenever a vacancy occurs in the office of deputy governor.
According to the report, Murtala Garo was thoroughly assessed on his educational background, professional experience, knowledge of governance, and readiness to assume the responsibilities of office.
Lawmakers noted that he demonstrated a strong understanding of the duties of deputy governor and presented a clear vision to support Abba Yusuf in advancing the administration’s development agenda.
Following deliberations, the committee recommended his confirmation, which was unanimously approved by members of the Assembly.
The House also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the executive arm of government to strengthen good governance, promote accountability, and accelerate development across Kano State.
The confirmation of Garo is expected to restore full executive leadership structure in the state and enhance coordination in the implementation of government policies and programmes.
