The Chairman of Omala Local Government Area in Kogi State, Edibo Mark, has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew following rising cases of kidnapping and communal clashes in the area. The curfew, which runs from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily, took effect on December 2 and will remain in place until further notice.
Mark announced the measures in a statement on Thursday, saying they were necessary to safeguard lives and property after recent security breaches. He said security agencies had been directed to intensify patrols, conduct 24-hour surveillance, and enforce strict stop-and-search operations at all entry points, with the Joint Task Force fully deployed.
The council also suspended all public religious activities, including Moulud celebrations, Christian vigils, and similar gatherings. Festival fireworks were banned, while churches and mosques were instructed to keep services brief and close early.
Mark urged residents to comply with the directives and cooperate with security personnel, stressing that community support is vital to restoring peace.
