Lady Helen Eno Obareki, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, has inaugurated another solar-powered Water-of-Life project in Ekpat Iduot community, Abak Local Government Area marking the fourth community to benefit from the clean-water initiative within a week.
The commissioning, held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, is part of the Golden Initiative for All (GIFA), a programme championed by the First Lady designate to expand access to potable water in rural communities that have suffered long-term water scarcity.
Speaking at the inauguration, Lady Obareki described the project as a “major stride” in enhancing environmental health, particularly for women, children, and vulnerable households. She noted that the solar-driven system is a “game changer” designed to provide stable access to safe water regardless of power supply challenges.
She reaffirmed GIFA’s commitment to extending similar clean-water facilities to the remaining 23 LGAs, urging communities in need of water intervention to reach out to the GIFA office with identified project sites.
The Chairman of Abak Local Government Council, Mrs Ime Charles, expressed gratitude for the intervention, pledging that the community would safeguard the project and ensure it serves future generations.
Goodwill messages poured in from top government officials, including the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Aniekan Umanah; the Honorary Special Adviser on Women Mobilisation, Dr. Ekemini Umoh; and the village head of Ekpat Iduot, Eteidung Saviour Aba-atai.
The community celebrated the commissioning with songs and cultural displays, after which Lady Obareki presented wrappers and cash gifts to selected vulnerable women.
