Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has declared a two-day public holiday on Thursday, October 30 and Friday, October 31 across Niger State in preparation for the November 1 local government elections. Â
According to a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, the decision was made to enable voters across the state to fully participate in the electoral process. All federal and state offices, markets, financial institutions and non-essential public services are to remain closed during the break. Â
Governor Bago also directed that public movement be restricted during the holidays, except for essential duties, and asked that security agencies maintain readiness to ensure the elections proceed peacefully. Â
He further granted political appointees a week off to return to their constituencies, encouraging them to facilitate voter mobilization efforts. The state government affirmed its commitment to security arrangement and says the measure is intended to strengthen citizens’ ability to cast ballots without constraints. Â
