POLICE FOIL ABDUCTION ATTEMPT, RECOVER ARMS IN FCT COMMUNITY

Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have successfully foiled an attempted abduction of a couple in Byazhin community, Bwari Area Council of Abuja, in the early hours of Thursday.

According to the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, the operation followed credible intelligence about suspected kidnappers operating around the Redeemed Church axis near Paze Hills. Police operatives were swiftly deployed to the scene, where the armed suspects were already attempting to forcefully break into a residential building with the intention of abducting the occupants.

On sighting the police, the suspects reportedly opened fire, triggering a fierce gun battle that lasted for over 30 minutes. The police responded with superior firepower, forcing the attackers to flee into nearby bushes with suspected gunshot injuries.

The couple, identified as Mr. and Mrs. Samson, were rescued unharmed. They were later taken to General Hospital, Gwarinpa, where they received treatment for trauma-related shock and were subsequently placed under protective custody.

Items recovered from the scene include an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and seven rounds of live ammunition. The Commissioner of Police commended the operatives for their bravery and assured residents of intensified surveillance and patrols across vulnerable communities, urging continued public cooperation through timely security intelligence.
