Senate Denies Viral Video Claiming Akpabio Threatened Northerners Ahead Of 2027 Polls

The Office of the President of the Senate has dismissed a viral video circulating online alleging that the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, made divisive comments targeting Northerners ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued in Abuja by the Special Adviser to the Senate President on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations, Jibril Tafida, the claim was described as false, malicious, and capable of inciting unnecessary political tension in the country.

The viral clip alleged that Akpabio warned that Northerners must support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 or face expulsion from Nigeria an assertion the Senate Office strongly rejected.

The statement clarified that the Senate President never made such remarks, stressing that the video content was misleading and intended to misinform the public and inflame regional sentiments.

It further called on security agencies to investigate and arrest one Garus Gololo, the individual featured in the video, and to compel him to substantiate his allegations with credible evidence.

According to the Senate Office, the circulation of such content poses a serious threat to national unity and democratic stability, especially as political activities begin to build toward the 2027 elections.

The statement also condemned what it described as repeated use of abusive language against the Senate President, warning that such behaviour undermines respect for public institutions and democratic processes.

It accused the individual behind the video of consistently making derogatory remarks against the administration and the ruling party, describing the actions as politically motivated and deliberate misinformation.

The Senate urged Nigerians, particularly those in the northern region, to disregard the viral allegations and remain vigilant against attempts to spread misinformation capable of fueling ethnic or political division.

It reaffirmed the commitment of the National Assembly to unity, peace, and responsible political engagement as the country prepares for the next general elections.
