Shettima, Okonjo-Iweala Lead High-Profile Delegation at Delta Investment Summit

Vice President Kashim Shettima and World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala were among prominent dignitaries who attended the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026 in Asaba.

The summit brought together government officials, local and international investors, business leaders and development partners to explore investment opportunities across key sectors of the state’s economy.

Delegations from Brazil and China were also present, reflecting growing international interest in Delta State’s investment potential.

Held under the theme “Harnessing Our Strengths, Unlocking Our Potentials,” the summit focused on attracting investments in strategic sectors including the special economic zone, blue economy, transport infrastructure, digital economy and innovation, agriculture, solid minerals, mining, and the energy sector.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration described the summit as a strategic platform designed to strengthen investor confidence, promote partnerships and accelerate economic development across the state.

The event also featured renowned Pan-African scholar Professor Patrick Lumumba as the guest speaker, alongside other government officials, policymakers and industry stakeholders.

Delta State showcased its economic achievements during the summit, highlighting an estimated ₦16.97 trillion Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2024, making it one of Nigeria’s leading state economies.

The state also emphasized the growing contribution of its non-oil sectors, underscoring ongoing efforts to diversify the economy and position Delta as a major destination for investment in agriculture, manufacturing, technology, infrastructure and other emerging industries.
