TRICYCLE OPERATOR ALLEGEDLY BEATS PARTNER TO DEATH IN RIVERS STATE, POLICE LAUNCH MANHUNT

A tragic incident in Rivers State has left residents in shock after a tricycle operator, identified as IK, was accused of beating his female partner to death in Ogbogoro, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at a guest house along CPM Street, where the couple had spent the night with their two young children. The deceased, said to be the mother of the suspect’s two children, was later found lifeless inside a stationary tricycle parked along the roadside.

Eyewitness accounts suggest the suspect fled the scene immediately after the incident, abandoning the woman’s body alongside the couple’s two daughters, both under the age of six. Residents raised alarm after discovering the children and the lifeless woman inside the vehicle early the next morning.

A community witness, Mr. Senibo, said the older child later told police that her father assaulted her mother during the night with a blunt object inside the guest house. According to the child’s account, the woman became weak and unresponsive before she was moved out and left inside the tricycle.

Police operatives from the Ozuoba Division were quickly deployed to the scene after a passerby reported the discovery. Officers confirmed finding the woman’s body and rescued the two children, one aged about five years and the other an infant of around six months.

The Rivers State Police Command, through spokesperson ASP Blessing Agabe Kaborlo, confirmed the incident, stating that preliminary investigations are ongoing and efforts have been intensified to track down the fleeing suspect.

She added that the victim was later identified by a relative, while her remains have been deposited in a mortuary for preservation and autopsy. The children have since been placed in the care of their maternal aunt as investigations continue.

Authorities say the case is being treated as a homicide, with a manhunt underway to ensure the suspect is arrested and brought to justice.
