Governor Mai Mala Buni has signed the ₦515.5 billion 2026 appropriation and finance bill into law, setting the state’s fiscal agenda for the coming year and emphasising economic growth, infrastructure and strict budget discipline. The bill, approved by the Yobe State House of Assembly after review and slight adjustments, will guide government spending on capital projects and essential services.
Governor Buni described the budget as the “Budget of Economic Growth and Infrastructural Transformation,” noting that it reflects a balance between development priorities and responsible spending, with capital expenditure accounting for a significant portion of the total outlay and recurrent costs responsibly managed. He highlighted the state’s commitment to accountability, probity and transparency in fiscal operations to ensure that limited public resources are used effectively for the benefit of residents.
As he signed the document, Buni warned against unnecessary spending and waste, urging ministries, departments and agencies to sustain fiscal prudence and strict observance of due process throughout implementation. He stressed the importance of continuously monitoring budget execution, strengthening revenue mobilisation, and directing resources toward initiatives that can meaningfully improve education, health, agriculture, infrastructure and job creation in the state.
The governor also commended members of the State Assembly for their collaborative approach in finalising the budget, underscoring that cooperation between the executive and legislature will be crucial in realising the state’s development objectives for 2026.
