Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that Nigeria is in ruins under the ruling party’s watch and requires urgent, people-driven reform.
Amaechi made the dramatic announcement during the unveiling of a new opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja. “Nigeria is completely destroyed. People can’t eat. Inflation is at its peak,” he lamented, accusing the APC and INEC of preparing to rig the 2027 election.
Amaechi also ruled out simply replacing one political party with another. “We must start a movement where Nigerians take power for themselves. I’ve left the APC. I had told them not to even invite me anymore.”
His departure further signals rising political tensions and re-alignments ahead of 2027, especially within the opposition coalition now headed by former Senate President David Mark.
