Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has launched a scathing critique of the Tinubu administration’s handling of civil service welfare, accusing the government of failing to pay four months’ arrears of the ₦35,000 wage award promised to federal workers after fuel subsidy removal in May 2023.
Atiku, in a statement posted on Facebook, described the administration’s behavior as “callous indifference” and “utter disdain for workers.” He also condemned the recent arrest of labour rights advocate Comrade Andrew Uche Emelieze, who was reportedly detained for organizing a peaceful protest demanding the overdue payments.
The former presidential candidate decried the government’s economic policies, claiming they have plunged millions into hardship while failing to honor basic promises. He called for Emelieze’s immediate release and urged the government to demonstrate respect for workers’ rights and civil liberties.
