A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that the South-East region is positioning itself to provide “massive support” for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. In a statement released on Monday, January 12, 2026, the party leader argued that the region’s political landscape is undergoing a significant shift as residents begin to witness the impact of the current administration’s infrastructure projects and inclusive appointments.
The chieftain emphasized that the South-East cannot afford to remain in opposition “perpetually,” suggesting that an alliance with the center is the most viable path toward addressing the region’s developmental and economic aspirations. He noted that the ongoing construction of major federal roads, bridges, and the revitalization of regional trade hubs under the Tinubu administration are serving as powerful selling points for the ruling party.
While the South-East has traditionally been a stronghold for opposition parties, the APC chieftain asserted that strategic grassroots mobilization is already underway to bridge previous gaps. He claimed that many influential leaders in the zone are now convinced that President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda offers a more realistic prospect for regional growth than the “emotional politics” of the past. This declaration is seen by analysts as part of a broader effort by the APC to penetrate the South-East and South-South regions ahead of what is expected to be a highly competitive 2027 contest
