Central African Republic President Touadéra Names New Government After Re-election

Central African Republic President Faustin-Archange Touadéra has appointed a new government, one month after beginning his third term in office.

The new cabinet largely retains the previous structure, with only 10 new ministers joining the 29-member team. Prime Minister Félix Moloua has also been reappointed, signalling continuity in the administration.

Touadéra, who was re-elected in December with nearly 78 percent of the vote according to official results, continues to face criticism from opposition figures who allege electoral irregularities. His main challenger, Anicet-Georges Dologuélé, has described the poll as “massive fraud,” accusing the government of tightening control over state institutions.

The announcement of the new cabinet comes shortly after the opening of parliament. Out of 144 seats, only 90 lawmakers have been sworn in so far.

The remaining 54 seats are still awaiting final results from the second round of elections, which were delayed after election workers went on strike over unpaid salaries, disrupting the electoral process.

Analysts say the new government reflects a balance between continuity and limited renewal, as the president consolidates his third-term administration amid ongoing political tensions and questions over governance and electoral transparency.
