FCT WORKERS resume DUTIES as INDUSTRIAL COURT halts INDEFINITE STRIKE

Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) offices have reopened and federal workers have resumed duties after a court order halted the indefinite strike that had paralysed civil service operations in the nation’s capital.

The National Industrial Court had earlier directed that the ongoing strike by FCTA unions be suspended temporarily while legal issues surrounding the action are addressed. In compliance with the order, federal workers who had been on strike began returning to work across FCT ministries, departments and agencies, signalling a resumption of routine public services that had been disrupted for days.

Government offices, including civil registries and administrative units, opened their doors early in the week as staff reported for duty. Public service counters that had been closed during the labour unrest are now processing applications, permits and citizen requests that had accumulated during the hiatus.

The strike had been driven by unresolved grievances between FCTA workers and the administration over welfare issues and working conditions. However, the court’s intervention which required unions to suspend the strike created space for renewed engagement and administrative continuity.

FCTA leadership confirmed that essential services will continue without interruption and encouraged staff to cooperate with managers as the legality of the strike and related disputes continue through the judicial process. Public reactions to the resumption were mixed, with some residents relieved by the return of services and others urging faster resolution of the underlying worker concerns.
